HA5 Task 5

Evaluation:

For this unit i feel like my drawing were good although i have completed this unit very late. If i were to stick to a schedule i would have completed this unit on time and i think that my work would of been of a higher standard do to my main goal being this unit rather then multiple units at once.

I don't feel like that i am good at art although i did put in a lot of effort to get this work complete. Even though I feel like my work is decent i'm still disappointing in myself for allowing this to be dragged along as far as it has.

I think that my designs are varied and i think that they are drawn to a decent level of my capabilities. I especially like the drawings for my flintlock pistol and my sword, i enjoyed drawing those because i think that they looked the best and i was looking for ways to improve them to make them seem even more authentic.

In conclusion i'm pleased with my work overall but i'm disappointed in myself for not completing this unit sooner.

HA5 Task 1

Character Development Pack

Character:

http://augustine.com/sites/default/files/errol-flynn-captain-blood_10x6.jpg

I chose all of these images because these photos are of Errol Fylnn and Jack Sparrow, both played parts in mevies based in the medieval era. Their clothing, attitude and weaponry can help me decide the future of the character that i am designing. I would take elements from each of these and combine them into my own character to create something new.

Setting:

I Chose these images because i thought that they would fit the scene well, the prison images will help me design a setting due to the differences in each, i'll also be able to add thing from my imagination. The castle image would be a good place for a prison to be due to it being surrounded by a moat.

I chose these images because they give me a wide range of ideas for a Sword, Playing Cards and a Pistol. All of these images are from the medieval era, i would like my character to be quite historically acurate but not as much to limit my creative power.

HA5 Task 2

All of these concept designs were created by quickly sketching down ideas, this gave me ideas on what to draw for my final pieces of work

These weapon concepts are of Rapier swords and a Flintlock pistols, i liked how my designs were and i knew immediately which ones were my favorite and which ones i was going to use for my final designs
These concepts are for the belt and the cards, i tried quite a few belt designs because i couldn't get a good idea on what my character would actually wear. The belts are quite simple but they are quite important for the character
This design for the prison had a 1 point perspective but i didn't like where the idea was going so i didn't get any further on this idea
This design for a prison cell was more like what i was thinking, a small room with little to do and remnants from previous torture.
These character designs were created with two different perspectives in mind, the left being a more joyful character and the right being a more rugged character.

HA5 Task 3

These are the final designs for my Character, Setting and Equipment.

HA4 Task 1

Concept Art Process

Within the games industry there is a stage molds the games art style, the first stage of creating the art style and characters for the game is the Exploration Stage. This is the stage where the artists throw around ideas on what the characters/environments should look like, this is purely conceptual and it is subject to change. The art team would try various Anatomical art styles which would fit into the games art style. An example of this in the game League of Legends, new "Champions" in League of Legends would go through various stages of development. Many different designs for a character would be created before deciding on a singular one.

These designs for the character "Graves" would be in the exploration stage, this is evident as there is a lot of variations in these 4 drawings, each have differences from each other which shows that the artist for this has not got a final idea of what the character would look like. Another image of the exploration stage is this.

This one is much different from the previous concept as this image of Graves is further along as they have decided that he would look quite rough, almost like Clint Eastwood facial expression. At this point this character may have a backstory or lore which would alter what he would look like.

After the Exploration stage is completed and a final character art has been created it would then go over to the approval stage. This is the stage of which the final character art is approved by publishers and further worked on creating proper art work, not concepts or sketches. An example of approved art would be this image. This image of Graves is more detailed then the other images as it is the final design for this character.

After the approval stage of the concept art the next stage would be the Promotional Art stage, this is the stage where detailed art word is shown to the public to generate hype as well as awareness.

This piece of promotional is used to show of the new character as well as generate hype for his release. artists would put alot more time into these pieces of art to make it look as good as possible.

Not only do characters go through this design process, both Objects and Environments to as well, both of these are equally important. Art for environment or characters may not even be used in the actual game.

This Promotional art for Runeterra was created for the purpose of the lore of the game, this was created to give the fictional place a face in the sense of that the people reading the lore would  understand what Runeterra would look like.

HA3 Task 1

01 - Primary Observation Portraits Exercise

This was the first drawing of HA3, we were told to draw each other with certain limitation on time and technique. This one had a 2 minute time limit on it to try and get the best results in a short amount of time.
This drawing was made also with a time limit but it was created using a different type of media
This drawing also had a time limit but we had to include a big smile as wide as the head.
This drawing was created with the limitation of not being allowed to take the pen off of the paper, there was also a time limit.

This task was to draw our faces from life in various expressions, i found this hard as i am not good at drawing details and im not good at spacing where everything goes

03 - Primary Observation Figures Exercise
These figure drawings were taken from life, i had to draw figure in various poses such as sitting, standing and moving

The drawings of the still figures were easy to do as they were still and they were easy to observe as nothing would change too much.

The moving figures were harder then the previous ones as its harder to observe since they are moving and you have to constantly adjust along with them.

04 - Primary Observation Expressive Hands Exercise
These drawings of hand poses were taken from life, i used my left hand as a model and posed it in various positions like peace, anger, wave and ok. I experimented with shading and i think that it looks decent from afar.

05 - Secondary Observation Gridded Exercise
This task was to draw within a grid, this exercise would encourage precision as you could precisely draw with the grid to get the most accurate drawing possible. I found this interesting as i found myself trying very hard to stick with the grid. the areas that were darker were harder to draw as it was hard to see those areas.

06 - Secondary Observation Mythical Creature Exercise
I created a mythical creature by combining various animals, i used various animals like pigeon, bat, crab, cheetah, hawk and human. We looked at various images on google images and used our favorites as inspiration.

07 - Secondary Observation Tracing Exercise
For this traced drawing we paired up and took pictures in various poses and chose the one that we liked the most, this was drawn with pencil.

08 - Construction Drawing Manga Head Exercise
This drawing of 2 Manga Expressions were created using a video tutorial on YouTube. we followed the instructions given to us to get the best result possible.

09 - Silhouette Figure Drawing Exercise

These silhouettes were drawn from life, we went to places such as the library or the canteen to capture people in various positions. we used dark coloured markers for this images.

We created 8 images using dark coloured makers.

01 - Isometric Perspective Exercise
These perspective drawings were created with different views in mind, this was created using a isometric view point, meaning all point go off at a singular angle

02 - Single Point Perspective Exercise
This drawing was created using single point perspective, all point all point towards a single point.

03 - Two Point Perspective Exercise
This drawing was done using Two Point Perspective, each point would go towards  2 angles then it would create a 3D shape

04 - Three Point Perspective Exercise
This drawing was created using Three Point perspective, this is the perspective that we see. I found this exercise easier then the two point perspective. All of these were quite simple as soon as i understood it.

05 - Two Point Perspective Spacestation Exercise
This drawing of a space station was created using 2 point perspective, we followed a video tutorial to create this piece like with the manga face drawings. I followed the video as closely as i could, although i had some trouble with the perspective in some areas. after completing the drawing in pencil i went back over it using a fine liner.

06 - Crated Primitive Objects Exercise
The following exercises were drawn using the crate method, i used the crate method to draw a pyramid, this was quite easy as there are very few lines to draw.
This drawing of a cone was also quite easy as there are also no a lot of lines to draw.
This cylinder, like the previous ones i found it easy to draw although the circle on the left side is in a small space, this area was hard to get correct.
This drawing of a Torus was the hardest one of these drawing to draw due to all of the necessary construction lines not being there.
This drawing of a sphere using the crate method was difficult to understand but after having it explained it was quite easy to draw.

01 - Mark-Making Techniques Exercise
This shading exercise was created using a pen, we did various different styles of shading using the pen to find which one we liked the most.

02 - Blended Shading Technique Exercise
For this piece of art we used charcoal to draw from life, we put together various paper plates and plastic cups to draw from and to get different levels of light

01 - Pastel Textures Exercise
These mark making exercises were created using different tools, these four textures were created using Oil Pastels, we went out into the school to get a closer look at the things that we had to create art from.
These four pictures were created using Soft Pastels. for this we also had to go out and find the areas that the images were taken from so that we could draw from life.

01 - Party Blower Ideas Generation Exercise
All of the 20 drawings ahead were created with the task of "Alternate uses for a Party Blower" in mind. I found this task quite hard as i found it really difficult to think of ideas past the first few.
This idea is of a party blower Recorder instrument.
This idea is of a party blower Fly Swatter
this idea is of a party blower Parachute.
this idea is of a Speed Regulator.

01 - Colour Wheel Exercise
This colour wheel is a very basic colour wheel, with only 3 primary, 3 secondary and 6 tertiary colours. Each was created using coloured marker pens, these were hard to blend together so we cross hatched them.

02 - Analogous Colour Scheme Exercise
This task was to colour the squares in with Analogous colour schemes (colours next to each other on the colour wheel) This was quite easy as it was just colouring in with appropriate colours.

03 - Complementary Colour Scheme Exercise
This task was to colour the squares with Complementary Colour scheme (colours that are opposite on the colour wheel) Like the previous colouring task it was easy as it was just finding the appropriate colours to colour in the page.

04 - Triadic Colour Scheme Exercise
This task was to colour the squares with a Triadic Colour Scheme (colours that are equally apart on the colour wheel) this was the most difficult as finding appropriate colours in in the limit colour pool could be hard.

01 - Brush and Ink Landscape Exercise

This task was to draw from life from nature, we used ink for this task. We had to split the drawing up into 4 separate images the stitch them together using Photoshop. This was difficult as using ink is difficult but it was only made even harder with the fact that it was windy outside when we did this task, the wink blew the ink and messed up some parts of the image.
